Good News!

Upon entering in our classroom in my English 2 class, I was nervous because that time was the deadline of our outline and note-taking task. We waited for Ma'am Lynnie for about 30 minutes. But, Ma'am Lynnie did not arrive. We decided to go to the English Department. We met Ma'am Lynnie. One of my classmatesasked her for an extension of the deadline in our outline. Were really happy because Ma'am Lynnie grant us the extension.
The next meeting, I thought Ma'am Lynnie will give us an activity about writing references. But, she discussed the importance of writing. Ma'am Lynnie is very particular on the process of how we do research on our topic. She's not after of the final product of the paper. She gave us a time to consult her about our outline for only 5 minutes in our assigned scheduled. Not just that, Ma'am Lynnie gave a good news for all of us. It was about the blogging activity. The good news was that the blogging activity will end this month of February. We were so happy about it. She also gave a chance for those who did not make yet their reaction essay. But, there's a bad news. According to her, for those who failed to make a blog account will miss 20 points. How sad.... I just hope that Ma'am Lynnie followed my account.
I really enjoyed doing this blog posting eventhough sometimes I felt tired. But still, tis task is really worth it.

Tiring Task

Within this week, I really learned many things in our lessons. The topic discussed was all about writing a term paper specifically on how to gather notes. I learned that in gathering notes, It should correspond to the answers to all the questions or the major categories and supporting details you need to develop your thesis. Ma'am Lynnie discussed the pointers in gathering notes. With it, I find it easier to locate the relevant information I want to gather on my thesis. She also discussed on how to use quotes, to summarize and to paraphrase the information. This is very important in note taking. With regards to this, Ma'am Lynnie gave us an assignment by partner. With my partner, our assignment was about how to paraphrase and making an outline on the topic of household waste management on the book. My partner and I planned that we will meet in our next meeting since Ma'am Lynnie is not around because she will have a seminar. on the day we will have to meet, my partner did not arrive. I was so worried because I can't do our assignment alone. But then, I decided to do it on my own. The following day, I saw my partner. He also did not make our assignment. SO, we do it that day in a hurry ans passed it after.

A challenging Activity

The activity we had last meeting was all about writing the reference for our term paper. With this, Ma'am Lynnie prepared four different reference which are all books. We are 4 groups and each group should have one representative to list all the information in the book. The time is limited so we need to be very hurry in getting the information. After that, we need to write in a manila paper and post it. Then, MA'am Lynnie corrected it and gave points. When it was already my turn to write the reference, I really felt nervous because the information of the books were so confusing. However, I made it but not perfectly. The activity was really fun.
In our next meeting, Ma'am Lynnie checked our topic and thesis statement for our term paper. I was really nervous that time because I was not yet sure what my topic is. I already search my topic but still I'm confused on it. At first, I thought the ones who were sitting in front will be first called but Ma'am Lynnie said that the first to share his/her topic were the one's at the back. I felt so tense. But still, I share my topic and MA'am Lynnie said that I should really improve it.

I learned many things in our discussion this week. Even though, we only met once because Ma'am Lynnie was absent last Tuesday.
Our teacher discussed about Research paper. She emphasized the importance of a research paper. As what our teacher said, it is really important for the thesis in my course soon. She first discussed on how to get a valid reference in the internet. One thing is to see if the particular site has an author. If it has an author, it is really a valid one.
I also learned how to organize the information of the reference. Ma'am Lynnie gave us an assignment to have a 5 reference of our topic for term paper next meeting and we will bring manila paper, pentelpen and scathtape for our activity about organizing the reference.
I really learned in our whole discussion. It helped us to have a specific reference for our research paper.

Reaction Essay

MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE

Very inhumane! I was alarmed by the brutality and evilness of the person/s behind this. The death of a certain number of women is such a big slap to our government considering our leader is a woman.

It’s really frustrating to hear about the heartless evil people like them do exist for real. I can’t imagine how they can sleep at night with what they did. For all we know they have been doing such kind of killings for a really long time, and have just been able to get away with it. What’s even more frustrating is we keep on hearing about all this all day, everyday and everywhere, and yet no necessary action is being done. Details, facts are already out in the open, but still those people are still out there. As long as Gloria needs to cover up the crime of stealing the presidency from FPJ, she will need to keep the Ampatuans happy. At all costs. We all want swift justice and not swerved justice for the Maguindanao Massacre victims and their families.

As for the government, declaring the National Day of Mourning is not enough, stop coddling the suspects, they are not above the law. It took the government days to take action and according to some reports, most of the armed group that committed this crime has run away towards the mountainous area of Maguindanao.

The situation is being handled very, very lightly! There are enough circumstantial pieces of evidence; why isn't anyone getting arrested?

This incident not only erases all doubts about the Philippines being the most dangerous country for journalists in the world, outside of Iraq, it could very well place the country on the map as a candidate for a failed democracy.Running for office and voting are as much exercises of free will and expression as covering and reporting the news.

We expect nothing less from this government than the swift apprehension and punishment of everyone involved in this gruesome assault on the national body politic, including the masterminds, regardless of who they might be.

Anything less would mean that the impunity that has emboldened those who would silence the press, staining this administration with the worst record of murdered journalists, has spread to embolden those who would subvert our democracy for their own selfish interests.

Let us all pray that justice will be served asap, and such cruelty will never happen again.

Starting My Jeep Class

In my English 3 class, our teacher told us that if we are not able to pass the placement test of the JEEP ( Job Enabling in English Proficiency ), we will have to enroll in it. I was one of those who failed the placement test. At first, I was kind of hesitant to enroll with it because I am very loaded with my subject and I only had less free time. But, I think over and over again if I will really enroll. Finally, I decided to enroll because I realized that it is really important to enhance my speaking skills in order to communicate well with other people around the globe.
My name is listed in the irregular schedule because I enrolled late. When I already get in the class, I felt so nervous because it was my first time and my classmates already experienced their lessons. I am very thankful to Ma'am Panzo , my teacher that time because she helped me a lot in coping up with the lessons.
Their were activities given and I really had fun on it.
My first experience in the JEEP class was a joyful one. I hope that the I will learn many things in the following meetings.

Searching my Topic

Few days before our class, I spend my time much in the library of CSM to find a topic for my term paper.I have hard time searching my topic because it is course related. So, i should find my topic that is related to physics. After a long time searching for my topic, i finally got it.
During our class, Ma'am lynnie checked each of our topic whether it is appropriate for a term paper topic, and then approved it including the thesis statement. My topic wad not approved because it was not relevant to my thesis statement. I need to change it for Ma'am lynnie's approval.
We had our first preliminary exam last Thursday. As what I have expected, the exam was really difficult,it included finding the topic sentence. In part four of the exam which is the essay I'm slight shocked because we are going to make an essay in about to 250 words. I wasn't able to finish my essay because I consumed a lot of time in outlining in formulating a thesis statement. I just hope I will get a passing score in the exam.

The Beautiful Beach

I used to spend my holidays on the beach. There is a beautiful beach in my hometown. The name is Tabon Beach. It takes approximately one hour from the main city by car to reach it. I used to go there with my family and sometimes with my friends also.
Usually we made a plan one or two days before we went there. We prepared everything we would need over there. We always brought foods such as rice, chicken, snacks, and drinks like Coke or juice. We also brought some equipment to prepare the foods. I would never forget my fishing rod, because there is a good area for fishing.
It would be fun on the way to the beach. We would like to look at some villages and the view. I would stop for a while to take some pictures of a beautiful view. We liked to see the traditional houses, green farms, and a river connecting to the sea. A market close to the beach sold fresh seafood. I used to buy some fresh seafood there (for example, shrimp, crab, and shellfish) and then cook them at the beach.
I remember one time in particular that I went to the beach with my friends. First, I looked for good place when I arrived at the beach, because it would be very crowded on weekends or holidays. I selected a cool place under the trees, and extended a mat on the white sand. The wind that blew through the trees softly made the weather cool and pleasant. Peace came into my heart when I looked at the very beautiful long white sand. People played games on the beach; for instance they played volleyball. Some of them swam in the shallow sea. There were some kids tried to make something by the sand, on the other hand tried to break it. Everybody looked happy at that time.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and played a guitar while my friends prepared our lunch. They set up a campfire to cook the seafood that we bought at the market. The good smell of the roasted seafood filled the air, which made me feel hungry. While they were preparing the lunch, I went to a small shop to order some delicious coconuts. I selected some good coconuts and asked a man to climb the coconut tree and throw them down.
Eating time had arrived! Everybody enjoyed the food and talked to one another. We shared our problems and thought things over together. My friend Aiza always told some jokes. We laughed loudly. I lost my problems for a while, because I was happy at that time. The young coconut milk was very sweet and made me feel refreshed when I drank it. Not only was the milk very good, but the coconut meat was also soft and delicious. It was very nice. I liked it.
Later, we sailed across the sea to a small island in front of the beach by sloop. It cost 100.00 pesos for one way. I used to go there to fish, because the island was good for fishing. I used to catch a lot of fish over there. I sat on a big stone and threw my fishing line into the sea. I enjoyed the feeling when a fish ate my fish bait. It was so fun! The fish pulled it and brought it into the sea, and I pulled my fishing rod slowly. It made me feel I had won a game when I got the fish.
Meanwhile, fisherman sold their freshly-caught seafood to the people on that island. In fact, many people came over there only to buy seafood, such as fish, cuttlefish, shrimp, crab, shellfish, and many other strange kinds of seafood. It wasn't only cheaper than we bought it at the fish store, but it also was still fresh and sweet.
The day was going to be dark soon. I prepared myself to go home. I got a little bit tired, but I felt happy. I went home, bringing my fish and my happiness. I would like to go there again when I come back to my country. It is the best place to spend my time on vacation.

OUTLINE

 Coverage in our first prelim exam
 Sensory word bins
 Importance of writing a term paper
 Types of descriptive writing
 Remembrance
 Description of a place
 Character profile
 Travel brochure
 Writing the essay
 Writing better sentences: avoiding fragments and run-ons

We had a great discussion in our class. This was really an enjoyable one. But, I thought we will have our first prelim exam. However , I am thankful that it was moved in our next meeting. We had an activity with regards to the words about our senses. It is called the sensory word bins. I was confuse with the words because it was very unfamiliar to me. But still, I learned many new words that will add my vocabulary. Our teacher discussed on the importance of writing a term paper. It was my first time to hear the word term paper. I have no clue on how it is to be done. I never experienced writing a term paper in high school. But, I think this activity will be really challenging to me because it involves many researches to do. As what our teacher discussed, I learned that term paper is really important because everything that we learn are all products of research. I also gained knowledge about the types of descriptive writing. These are the remembrance, description of a place, character profile and travel brochure.
Our next blog assignment is writing a descriptive essay. I learned that there are steps to follow in writing a descriptive essay. You must create a main impression, organize details, and use vivid words. Ma'am Lynnie reminded us that when we blog, we should first have a skeletal diagram in order to organize well the ideas. I also learned that when writing, you must think of your audience.
We had our make up class. The discussion was all about writing better sentences by avoiding fragments and run-ons. It was my first to encounter the word run-on sentences. I gained knowledge that run-on sentences result in problems of unclear meaning. A sentence is called a fragment when the subject or the verb is missing.
In our whole discussion, i really much informed of many things most specially in writing better sentences.
